Painting from intuition: what it really means

Painting from intuition does not mean painting without discipline. It means beginning from sensation before explanation. Instead of deciding everything in advance, the artist listens to colour, rhythm, body and emotion as the painting develops.

An intuitive painting may start with one mark, one colour or one movement. That first decision creates a response. Another layer answers it. A line interrupts. A face appears. A form disappears. The painting becomes a living conversation between what is chosen and what is discovered.
